Title: Assistant Director of Campus Safety
Office/Department: Campus Safety Department
Description: Grove City College is seeking an Assistant Director of Campus Safety to support the department in leading the daily operations of a department committed to providing a safe and secure campus environment that fosters personal, spiritual, and academic growth. This role plays a direct part in serving, protecting, guiding, and shaping students’ lives, and therefore requires an individual who can clearly articulate a personal understanding of and commitment to the College’s Christ-centered mission. The Assistant Director helps ensure the protection of life and property, the maintenance of peace and order, and the prevention and control of crime while working collaboratively with campus departments and local emergency services to uphold institutional safety standards.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing departmental activities in the Director’s absence, supervising daily operations, scheduling personnel, completing payroll, and managing clerical aspects of parking control, such as permitting, ticketing, appeals, and special-event logistics. The Assistant Director provides guidance to officers conducting investigations, personally handles more complex incidents, and assists with reviewing and disseminating incident reports, including those required under the Uniform Crime Reporting Act. Additional duties include conducting safety inspections and patrols, coordinating special event security, supporting emergency management planning, delivering safety-related training, and responding to campus emergencies with the ability to provide armed response and personal protection services when necessary. The role also participates in hiring, interviewing, and training processes, maintains firearms certifications for armed officers, and performs general administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements: Candidates should have the ability to learn and apply written and verbal instructions related to safety and security operations. Prior law enforcement or public safety experience (Act 120, BA, or equivalent) is strongly preferred, as are supervisory experience and familiarity with a college campus environment. Upon employment, the Assistant Director must obtain and maintain PA Act 235 Lethal Weapons Certification, as well as First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications. A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is required. Additional training—such as firearms instructor certification or emergency management instruction—may be pursued based on departmental needs. The position requires strong judgment, the ability to manage multiple ongoing activities, and the capacity to respond effectively to interruptions and evolving situations. A strong, demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the Christian mission and vision of Grove City College is essential.
Candidates with the appropriate skills should send their letter of interest, resume, names of three professional references, and salary requirements to: employment@gcc.edu.
