Dean & Professor: Hopeman School of Science, Engineering, & Mathematics

Position: Dean & Professor, Hopeman School of Science, Engineering, & Mathematics

Office/Department: Hopeman School

Grove City College invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Hopeman School of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. The Hopeman School Dean, the Dean of the Calderwood School of Arts and Letters, and the Dean of the Business School report directly to the Provost, and along with Assistant Deans form the key academic administrative team for the college.

Hopeman School features:

  • ABET-accredited programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science.
  • ACS-certified program in Chemistry.
  • COAES-accredited program in Exercise Science.
  • ACEN-accredited program in Nursing.
  • Inclusion in U.S. News Top 100 Undergraduate Engineering Programs.
  • Active undergraduate research programs in Biology, Chemistry, Exercise Science, Mathematics, Physics, and other disciplines, including funding for summer research.

The Hopeman School houses the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Exercise Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Nursing, and Physics.  The Dean must be a leader and collaborator who facilitates the collective effort of the approximately 60 faculty to cultivate a Christ-centered environment where undergraduate teaching and research are valued and supported. In this role, the Dean advocates for the school’s vision and strategic plan, supervises the hiring of new faculty, works to assess and improve faculty performance in teaching, research, and service, manages the Hopeman School budget, and oversees curriculum development, in addition to periodically teaching courses in his or her academic discipline. The new Dean will lead the Hopeman School during an exciting time, with several rapidly growing departments, the opening of a $48 million renovated science building, and opportunities to explore new programs that can broaden the school’s offerings and maintain its attractiveness to students for years to come.

Applicants for the position should possess the following qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in a STEM field from an accredited institution, and a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship.
  • A Christian vision of higher education that is derived from a long-standing, well-thought-out personal affirmation of the Christian faith and a deep appreciation for the authority of Scripture, including a clear understanding of the Christian impulse for mathematics, science, and engineering.
  • Broad experience in college administration and strategic planning, from developing an academic vision to planning and implementing that vision while working with colleagues who hold diverse perspectives.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of professional integrity, including evidence of the ability to deal effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students and to manage complex organizational tasks.
  • The capacity to enhance Grove City College’s strengths, to further its core mission of cultivating the intellectual, moral, and spiritual development of its students, and to help the College lead with grace and humility amidst the changing environment of higher education.

To Apply:
Applicants should send a letter of application that addresses the qualifications described above, a curriculum vitae, an essay explaining their philosophy of Christian higher education and how this philosophy is a good fit with the college’s unique mission, as well as their philosophy of academic management, and a list of five references (four professional and one pastoral) with contact information. Send these documents to: Mrs. Jamie N. Kimble, Associate Director of Human Resources at employment@gcc.edu.
