Assistant/Associate Professor of Music

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Music

Office/Department: Music

Grove City College is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position in the Department of Music beginning in the fall of the 2026-27 academic year. Preference is given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in music education.

Teaching assignments will include undergraduate music pedagogy courses, coordinating the music education program, including student teacher placements, field experiences, and coordinating observations with other music education faculty. The ability to direct a women’s vocal ensemble is highly valued. The role involves interacting with local public-school teachers, advising undergraduate music education majors, advising the college’s PCMEA student chapter, and serving as the liaison to the Department of Education.

Additional duties include participation in music department activities, such as recruiting, audition committees, recital committees, curriculum review, and other duties as needed. Attendance at concerts, recitals, and other music events is expected. Candidates must be committed to teaching highly motivated students at a Christian liberal arts institution. A proven record of scholarship and performance, as well as sustained excellence in teaching, are highly valued.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in Music Education or a related music field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment
  • A demonstrated record of PreK-12 public-school experience (3-5 years) with expertise in general music pedagogy

The Grove City College Department of Music is a robust and collegial community of scholars, performers, and pedagogues. It includes eight full-time faculty, 31 part-time faculty, and two staff, as well as five undergraduate degrees, two minors, and approximately 270 students (majors, minors, lessons, and ensembles).

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications.

Application review will begin January 15 and continue until the position is filled. Please submit:

  • A current curriculum vitae indicating educational record, employment record, achievements, awards, conducting, performance, and publications. Please also describe any civic and church activities, as well as all current organizational memberships.
  • Names and contact information of four references (three professional and one pastoral).
  • A letter of interest that includes any experiences/certifications with various music pedagogies, and an explanation of how your Christian faith represents a strong fit with Grove City College’s unique mission as a Christian college.
  • A 300-600-word statement outlining your teaching philosophy, which may focus on your motivation to teach at an undergraduate college, the importance of mentoring students toward membership in professional organizations and the state MEA, and/or what constitutes effective pedagogy at a Christian liberal arts college.
  • Links to 2-3 examples from your creative/performance/research portfolio that best represent your output in music education, music performance, or other music areas.

Materials may be submitted to: employment@gcc.edu.

Questions related to the position can be sent to Dr. Jeff Tedford, Chair for Music.
