Hungry for a great book? Campus festival is for you

Do you devour books? Grove City College has the event for you.

The College’s Department of Communication & Visual Arts and Henry Buhl Library   will hold its annual Edible Book Festival from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 in the Great Room of Breen Student Union on Campus.

The festival is a fundraiser, a contest and an art show of sorts, with students, faculty, staff, campus groups and other members of the Grove City College community invited to use their creativity and culinary skills to create “edible books.” Inspiration comes from the entrants’ favorite books.

“The Edible Book Festival is a fun and creative event that we look forward to hosting every year. We love to see what people come up with for their entries. They’re always very creative and many are humorous,” Megan Babel, reference and outreach librarian at Buhl Library, said. “This event is a great way to celebrate books and a love of reading with other book-lovers on campus and to give back to a local charity within the community.”

All entries will be displayed and eaten after visitors have a chance to “vote” for their favorites with spare change. The entries that pull in the most cash will be declared the winners and receive prizes from Bon Appetit, the campus food vendor, and Grove City College Bookstore.

All proceeds from the festival will be donated to BeLoved Mercy Ministries, which helps homeless families in the Grove City Area School District. They strive to reduce the number of homeless families with children and services such as temporary and transitional housing to those in need.
