New deans, vice presidents join College leadership team

Grove City College is bolstering its academic and administrative leadership team with promotions and new hires.

Dr. Seulgi Byun is the new dean of the Alva J. Calderwood School of Arts and Letters. Byun, who joined the faculty in 2016, is a professor of Biblical and Theological Studies who served previously as department chair and as executive director of the College’s Center for Rural Ministry. He holds degrees from Gordon College, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and the University of Cambridge. He was Professor of the Year in 2022.

Dr. Joshua Snyder will serve as dean of the Hopeman School of Science, Mathematics and Engineering. Snyder comes to the College from Duke University School of Medicine, where he was an associate professor of surgery, cell biology, and pharmacology and cancer biology. A 2004 Grove City College alumnus, he earned a B.S. in biochemistry from the College in 2004 and a Ph.D. in molecular pharmacology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Michelle Williams was promoted to vice president for Business and Finance, overseeing Grove City College’s budget and finances. Williams, who started working for the College in 2003, has served in various posts in the Financial Services office, most recently as senior director of Financial Services. A 2001 Grove City College alumna, she earned a degree in Accounting.

Brian James is now on board as vice president for Marketing and Communications. Previously, he was a senior director in Carnegie Mellon’s University Marketing & Communications, worked in national advertising, and founded a regional marketing and production agency in Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of Maryland’s Frostburg State University.
