Grove City to host Physics Day outreach

Grove City College’s Department of Physics will host an outreach program for local students on Tuesday, April 11 in Rockwell Hall on campus.

Geared specifically for fourth and fifth graders, the day is designed to provide students with hands-on physics experience and encourage a life-long love of science. Students from Grove City Christian Academy, area homeschoolers and gifted students from Grove City and Slippery Rock area schools will participate in a variety of activities that demonstrate common physics concepts.

“Physics Day is a great event in which we get the opportunity to inspire young children and share how fun physics can be,” said Dr. DJ Wagner, professor of physics at the College. “Whether or not the children ultimately pursue a career in the field, they will hopefully have gained an appreciation for scientific discovery and for physics.”

Students will build egg drop containers, compete in an egg drop contest and make ice cream with liquid nitrogen. Local businesses will also donate prizes and tokens for gift bags.

The event, organized by Physics Club students Eli Pragle ‘18, Shannon Armstrong ‘18 and Adam Campbell ‘18, is in its 14th year.
