Do you dream of a career in music? Perhaps you hope to play with a symphony orchestra, record original albums, direct a high school band, or teach third graders how to play piano. Regardless of your career destination, you will carry the responsibility of stewarding music — an influential medium that persuades minds and hearts. Here, we will train you to make the most of your talents and use them to inspire and uplift those around you — whether on stage or in the recording studio, sanctuary, or classroom. As a natural component of that training, you will learn how to approach music as an expression of worship and live out your faith as you pursue your calling.

Our program offers you a well-rounded curriculum with exposure to theory, music history, and conducting, as well as freedom to specialize in your greatest area of interest through an applied concentration. You will have abundant opportunities to put theory into practice through participation in our faculty-led ensembles and chamber ensembles — such as touring choir, symphony orchestra, Wolverine Marching Band, jazz ensemble, trumpet ensemble, and flute choir, many of which perform at national and state conferences. In an environment where you’ll be mentored and challenged, you can take advantage of conducting and leadership opportunities — typically reserved for graduate students at most large institutions. Additionally, you will benefit from our high-quality facilities that create space for collaboration and individual growth — including the 700-seat Ketler Auditorium, Parker Organ Studio, and Arnold Recital Hall, as well as ample practice rooms, music education suite, music technology lab, and black box theatre.

With varying backgrounds as professional artists and educators, our faculty become mentors who care about your personal and professional development. From freshman through senior year, you will have private music lessons with the same faculty instructor every semester in your primary area of voice, piano, or instrument. You will also build relationships with your professors through everyday interactions in the classroom, performance experiences, and casual conversations in the Pew Fine Arts Center — the hub of musical life at Grove City College.

Our music department naturally fosters community and will no doubt become a place where some of your richest friendships are forged. As you cultivate relationships with peers and faculty, you will also network with professional musicians and music educators through workshops. In addition, you will be able to grow professionally through internships and research with faculty in the areas of music history and music theory. Our graduates come out ready to lead and go on to become influencers in the field — as nationally recognized composers, symphony orchestra executive directors, music industry executives, impactful music educators, and professional musicians.
