The Department of Modern Languages at Grove City College prepares students to excel in competitive graduate programs and careers across a wide range of industries. The Department offers degree programs in French, Spanish, and K-12 teaching certification in French and Spanish, as well as minors in Chinese, French and German.
In addition to boosting students' fluency in speaking, understanding, reading and writing, the Department of Modern Languages takes into consideration the many facets of language studies and cultural understanding. Through a comprehensive curriculum, integrated study abroad opportunities and varied cultural events, students work in close collaboration with each other and with their instructors to become skilled participants in today’s increasingly complex, interconnected and changing world.
To support interaction outside the classroom, the Department of Modern Languages sponsors numerous co-curricular activities including foreign film nights, international praise and worship services and community service projects. The Department also hosts weekly Language Tables, where students and faculty can eat together and converse. Students also have the opportunity to join Alpha Mu Gamma, the foreign language honorary, as well as the French Club, Spanish Club, and Chinese Club.
Because fluency is achieved most effectively through immersion, the Department of Modern Languages works closely with the Office of International Education, a resource for students interested in studying in a foreign country. Our study abroad opportunities are diverse, giving students the freedom to choose a program that best fits their needs.
