If you can learn to see your students with the eyes of Christ, it will transform the way you teach. That’s why we integrate faith into every course, equipping you not only with the best instructional techniques but also with a holistic understanding of children’s multifaceted needs as distinct learners endowed with God-given potential. Our curriculum is comprehensive yet flexible, giving you space to solidify your calling and pursue it well. In addition to education courses, our renowned humanities core cultivates a well-rounded perspective of the world and your place in it.
Coming from diverse careers in K-12 education, our faculty are passionate mentors eager to help you find your niche and thrive. Our full-time faculty guide you from day one and personally supervise your student teaching experience all the way through. They also encourage you to find Truth and build upon it as a firm foundation for your life’s work. Ultimately, they point you to Jesus—the master teacher who winsomely shared Truth through distinct teaching methods to suit every situation.
Our field-based program affords you the opportunity to gain classroom experience at the primary, secondary, or post-secondary levels throughout your undergraduate career. Beginning freshman year, you will have field experiences with local partner schools, culminating in a semester of student teaching before you graduate. As you tackle lesson planning for field experiences and student teaching, you will greatly benefit from our impressive and dynamic Hamilton Curriculum Library, curated by a certified teacher in our program. Serving as a hub for all education majors, the curriculum library gives you access to a wealth of education materials and expert guidance for lesson planning and general development.
Our department houses a one-of-a-kind Office of Education Career Services, offering individual career counseling and other developmental resources such as resume reviews, conferences, job fairs, on-site interviews, and summer employment. Our philosophy is to come alongside our students as they study, graduate, and serve in the field of education. The Office of Education Career Services provides direct contact to school recruiters all over the world, as well as ongoing, in-depth job search preparation, comprehensive career counseling, and assistance from a dedicated certification officer who will help guide you in the certification process (whether you decided to teach in Pennsylvania or elsewhere). From your first year as a teacher and throughout your career, our mission is to help you live out your mission, and we are eager to support your professional and personal growth.
In addition to student-led groups like the Council for Exceptional Children and the Secondary Education Society, you’ll have an opportunity to be inducted into our highly decorated chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi honorary. Throughout the year you’ll also be invited to network with alumni and leaders in education—most notably during “Ed Camp” when practicing teachers and administrators from around the country join us for dynamic conversation, brainstorming, and fellowship.
Qualified teachers are in high demand. Not surprisingly, nearly all of our graduates receive several job offers soon after graduation (94% in 2019), and most pass the Praxis exam on their first try. Coming from Grove City College, you will be prepared to teach in any environment at an advanced level that sets you apart. No matter the district or classroom, you will stand out with well-rounded expertise, integrity, and passion as you seek to transform young minds and hearts.
