As you explore the current landscape of mathematical theory and hone practical skills, you will also learn to integrate your expertise with your understanding of human knowledge and behavior — freed to contemplate the infinite with humility and wonder.

Through courses in pure and applied mathematics as well as statistics, you will build a thorough foundation and enjoy the freedom to specialize. Our optional concentration in actuarial science – including advanced coursework in statistics, finance, risk management, and insurance – as well as our applied statistics major will give you the theoretical understanding and practical skills to open doors to vast career options. You may also choose to double major or minor in a wide variety of fields – students find ways of applying their mathematical skills in fields from business to technology, science, and beyond. Regardless of where you end up, you will have the broad skill set and preparation to succeed professionally.

These passionate mathematicians and mentors will guide your exploration of the infinite while grounding your perspective in the reality of human limits. Beyond the instruction in the calculations, concepts, and theory of mathematics, faculty take a keen interest in student development and will help you solidify your path. They also foster a culture of collaboration and accountability within the department, yielding a strong sense of community among students, faculty, and alumni. Grow professionally through research and internships.

Through our in-house SOAR program and REUs (Research Experience for Undergraduates) across the country, students have access to significant opportunities to conduct research and present their findings at the national meetings of the Math Association of America (MAA) and the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Internships also abound — providing you opportunities to get hands-on experience with big names like the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and State Farm Insurance. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to be sharpened by fellow math-minded students in Grove City’s chapter of the national mathematics honorary, Kappa Mu Epsilon.
