Program Highlights

• Personal access to highly accomplished mathematics faculty and education faculty who serve as guides and mentors in and out of the classroom.
• 89-91 major credit hours of rigorous coursework to build your foundation in pure and applied mathematics and equip you to teach at the secondary level.   • Mathematics major course requirements to earn our bachelor of science degree include Calculus II, Combinatorics or Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science, Linear Algebra, Mathematics for Secondary Education, Calculus III, College Geometry, Theory of Statistics I, Abstract Algebra, Classical Analysis, and Seminar in Mathematics.
    • Students who have not taken calculus in high school may begin with Calculus I and still get on track to graduate in four years.
  • Math electives include options in Financial Mathematics, Differential Equations, Theory of Statistics II, Complex Variables, Number Theory, Intermediate Analysis, and Topology.
  • Major-related requirements include General Physics I or College Physics I and II, as well as Computer Programming I.
  • Professional education requirements include the following and incorporate practical field experience: Introduction to the Teaching Profession, Technologies of Instruction, Educational Psychology, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, and Methods of Secondary Special Education Implementation, among other courses.
    • In both middle and high school settings, you will learn about classroom management, student motivation, best practices in pedagogy and assessment, and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Student teaching experience during a semester of your senior year, with mentoring from a faculty advisor and professional partners in the field, as well as opportunities to work as a teaching assistant or lab technician on campus.
• Education Career Services (ECS) offering exceptional career development and networking opportunities for you as both a student and alumnus of Grove City College. The ECS fosters relationships with private, public, charter, and international schools, as well as other education employers.
• Licensure assistance through our highly developed certification services, through which we help students and alumni fulfill state certification requirements, meet testing requirements, and pursue additional certifications as desired.
• Educational leadership opportunities through national and international partners in areas such as urban education, gifted education, youth theater programs, and ESL programs.
• Opportunities to attend education conferences and events such as Ed Camp and various high school outreach programs.
