Grove City College offers a mathematics degree that opens doors to careers in actuarial science, data science, computer and information science, business, law, health care, and secondary education, as well as opportunities to pursue further education at some of the top graduate programs nationwide. As a math major in our four-year program, you will be guided by expert faculty mentors in your exploration of the infinite and build a practical skill set to make a measurable impact.

Program Highlights
    • 42-47 major credit hours of rigorous undergraduate coursework that will build your foundation in pure mathematics and applied mathematics. For detailed course descriptions, refer to the College Catalog.
    • Mathematics major course requirements include Calculus II, Combinatorics or Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science, Linear Algebra, Calculus III, Abstract Algebra, Classical Analysis, and Seminar in Mathematics.
      • Students who have not taken calculus in high school may begin with Calculus I and still get on track to graduate in four years.
    • Math electives include options in College Geometry, Theory of Statistics I and II, Complex Variables, Number Theory, Intermediate Analysis, and Topology, as well as Financial Mathematics, Differential Equations, and College Geometry.
    • Major-related requirements include General Physics I or College Physics I and II, as well as Computer Programming I.
  • Optional Concentration in Actuarial Science.
    • This concentration has 55-60 required major credit hours, including advanced business courses in statistics, finance, risk and insurance, investment management, and investment valuation.
    • Students in the concentration program are required to take the first actuarial exam. The passing rate for Grove City College students is 80% (compared to a national passing rate of 42%). Of those who have taken the second exam, 100% have passed.
    • Our graduates are well prepared to excel in competitive graduate and professional programs and obtain employment in a wide range of industries — from insurance and finance to law and healthcare.
  • Freedom to double major or minor in related or complementary disciplines, such as finance, economics, astronomy, computer science, data science, business analysis, business statistics, and philosophy.
  • Personal access to highly accomplished teaching faculty who serve as guides and mentors in and out of the classroom.
  • Extensive research opportunities through our in-house SOAR program and REUs across the country.
  • Internship opportunities in a wide range of professional settings with big names such as U.S. Department of Defense, National Security Agency, NASA, and State Farm Insurance.
  • Vocation-enriching humanities core classes woven into your academic schedule that will cultivate greater empathy, critical thinking, writing and other communication skills, and a well-rounded understanding of the world and your place in it.
