April 30, 2011

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The 2011 Grove City College Senior Man and Woman of the Year awards were presented to William “Chuck” Witt of Dillsburg, Pa., and Brittany Cobb of Woodland Park, N.J., on April 30 during the Parents’ Weekend Recognition Convocation on campus.

The awards for Senior Man of the Year and the Senior Woman of the Year are presented jointly by the leadership honoraries Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Kappa as a service to Grove City College. The selections are made on the basis of scholarship, leadership and service. The candidates were voted upon by the students and faculty. It is one of the highest honors that the College can bestow. Former recipients of this prestigious honor have gone on to become leaders in faith, education, business, law and healthcare.

Witt is the son of William and Kathryn Witt. The mechanical engineering major has been a member of numerous honoraries such as Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Chi Alpha Sigma, Scroll and Key and Round Table. Witt is a Grove City College Swezey Research Fellow, who has worked at Harvard University alongside Dr. Erik Anderson, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, and has written for two publications, “Journal of Fluid Mechanics” and “Marine Technology Society Journal.”

As a varsity soccer player and team captain, Witt has been recognized for his efforts on the field and in the classroom by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, ESPN, CoSIDA and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Witt is an active member of the campus community, involved in the Religious Activities Committee, Athletes in Action, Alpha Epsilon Chi housing group, Inner City Outreach: Memphis, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Ski and Snowboarding Club. He has served as a student assistant and grader and worked on an independent study to design a wind turbine that could power astronomy telescopes on the Intramural Fields. His research was later published and presented at a conference for the American Society of Engineering Education.

Cobb is the daughter of William and Jill Cobb. The economics major has served as a member of several honoraries including Pi Gamma Mu, Omicron Delta Kappa, Omicron Delta Epsilon, Mortar Board, the American Marketing Association and Operation Top Management.
