Grove City College offers a B.A. in Psychology that will lay a foundation for graduate programs and a wide range of careers in professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical psychology, education, business, and more. Wherever your calling takes you, your Bachelor of Arts in Psychology will deepen your empathy for people as God’s image bearers, strengthen your understanding of the human mind and human behavior, and develop important skills in research, data analysis and interpretation, critical thinking, and communication.

  • Internship opportunities – Our internship coordinator, Dr. Martin Bright will help you take your skills to the professional world with organizations such as George Junior Republic, Family & Children Faith Coalition, United States Probation Office, Genesis Counseling Center, TWOgether Pittsburgh, and Newton Consulting. Internships can be done either for credit or not for credit. Both options help students discern their calling and provide experinece that graduate schools and employers value. Our students perform well in internships. We are regularly contacted by organizations that want to recruit our students.
  • Research opportunities – Gain valuable experience conducting research and collaborating with faculty to equip you for graduate school and help you stand out to future employers. 
  • Student-led organizations – Grow in servant leadership through groups like the Psi Chi.
  • Vocation-enriching humanities core classes – Deepen your critical thinking, writing, and other communication skills while cultivating empathy and a well-rounded worldview. Our Psychology curriculum integrates with the Humanities Core through courses such as Worldview and Psychological Science as well as History and Systems of Psychology.

    • Career paths: licensed professional counselor, psychologist, marriage and family therapist, school psychologist, forensic psychologist, sports psychologist, nonprofit executive director, editor, event planner, director of youth leadership development, guidance counselor, organizational psychologist, and more.
    • Outstanding outcomes – Like 95% of Grove City College graduates, you will be prepared to compete for a wide variety of full-time positions or pursue graduate-level education at some of the top schools nationwide within six months of graduation.
      • Among our psychology majors who choose not to attend graduate school, many begin careers with private and governmental agencies to serve children and youth or work with people struggling with addiction and substance abuse, while others find entry-level positions in business.
      • Among our graduates with advanced degrees in psychology, most provide mental health services at hospitals, clinics, or in private practice. Many others work in schools; conduct research at universities, hospitals, and other settings; practice law; or work in business.
    • Equipped for success – Wherever you are called to serve, you will have a broad foundation, advanced research and practical experience, and a honed sense of purpose to effectively support individuals, nonprofits, and businesses spanning a variety of fields.
    Program Specifics
    • 51 major credit hours of undergraduate coursework that will give you a broad and thorough foundation in psychology. For detailed course descriptions and a comprehensive list of required credits to earn this bachelor of arts degree, refer to the College Catalog.
      • Psychology core requirements include courses in Foundations of Psychological Science, Worldview and Psychological Science, Statistical Methods, Research Methods, Social Psychology, History and Systems of Psychology, Psychological Assessment, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Advanced Research Methods.
      • Experimental, clinical, and developmental clusters include specialized course options in Sensation and Perception, Cognitive Psychology, Advanced Statistics, Intro to Professional Counseling, Psychology of Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Child Development, Adult Development and Aging, and Marriage and Family: Assessment and Intervention.
      • Major-related requirements include General Biology or Life Science.
    • Options to double major or minor across departments in complementary disciplines like family studies, social work, pre-law, and foreign languages.
    • This bachelor of arts option heavily incorporates liberal arts and social science coursework, providing a foundation for graduate study in mental health counseling, clinical psychology, school psychology, and industrial/organizational psychology.
