Carter, Konzen named future chairs of Music and Fine Arts Department

Dr. Beverly Carter and Dr. Richard Konzen have been appointed chair and assistant chair, respectively, for the Department of Music and Fine Arts at Grove City College. The leadership positions are effective July 1, 2013, prior to the next academic year.

Carter, who holds her Ph.D. in interdisciplinary arts from Ohio University, came to Grove City College in 1992 to coordinate and teach the Civilization and the Arts course in the College’s humanities curriculum. She earned her master’s degree in musicology from the Eastman School of Music. In addition to being a Fulbright Scholar, Carter has also chaired numerous committees for the College’s Middle States studies.

The new assistant chair, Konzen, earned his Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Musical Arts from Yale University before joining the Grove City College faculty in 1992. The College’s organist, Konzen also served as the music director of the College orchestra for 19 years. He also led the restoration of the 1931 Kimball Organ in Harbison Chapel and secured the funds and contract for the new studio organ built in 2006.

Retiring chair Edwin (Doc) Arnold has been at Grove City College for 38 years. Arnold has held several senior administrative positions including assistant dean of the College, executive assistant to the president, vice president of external affairs and liaison to the Commission of Higher Education. The band and music programs reached new levels of excellence under his direction.
