GCC hosts 20th annual Austrian Student Scholars Conference

Grove City College will host the 20th annual Austrian Student Scholars Conference Feb. 16 and 17 on campus.

Coordinated by the Department of Economics, undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities from Grove City College and other institutions will present their research papers written in the tradition of Austrian School intellectuals such as Ludwig von Mises, F. A. Hayek, Murray Rothbard and Grove City College’s own Hans Sennholz.

The papers will be judged by a select panel of Grove City College faculty. The students with the top three papers will be awarded cash prizes.

There will be keynote lectures delivered by Dr. Sandra Klein and Dr. Peter Klein. Dr. Sandra Klein is Clinical Professor and Undergraduate Program Director in the Department of Economics at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business and a Fellow of the Mises Institute. Dr. Peter Klein is W. W. Caruth Endowed Chair, Professor of Entrepreneurship, and Chair of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business. also is the Carl Menger Research Fellow at the Mises Institute.

Grove City College is known as the world’s leading undergraduate institution for the study of Austrian School economics. Back in 1956, Sennholz, a young protégé of von Mises, the dean of Austrian School economists, was hired to head the economics department. Many students have been introduced to the Austrian School and the college has been home to Mises’ papers since 1978.
