The Office of Disability Services offers a variety of services that are dependent upon an individual’s disability, documentation, and an intake meeting with the student and the Office of Disability Services. This interactive process is used to determine the eligibility of appropriate accommodations.
Potential academic accommodations could include, but are not limited to, the list below.
While students can request academic accommodations at any point some accommodations can take time to arrange and put into place. It is highly recommended that students submit a request several weeks prior to the start of the semester or term for which accommodations are being requested.
Note: Generally, accommodation requests received within the final two weeks before a semester’s final exams period will not be reviewed, nor an intake meeting scheduled, until after the semester concludes.
All accommodations relevant to an individual’s disability must be requested and approved through the Office of Disability Services. Please review the Housing & Dietary Accommodations page for specific policies and information pertaining to those types of accommodations.
Accommodations are intended to provide equal access for the student with a disability. A student with a disability remains responsible for following all College policies, including the student code of conduct, as well as meeting academic, course, and/or program requirements.
Our office also partners with and/or recommends that students connect with the following support services:
Students are solely responsible for contacting the Office of Disability Services to request accommodations. Students who wish to request accommodations should start the process by completing the Request for Reasonable Accommodations.
Following submission of the accommodation request, students will generally need to submit documentation in accordance with the General Guidelines for Documentation.
Documentation can be submitted via the application portal, emailed, mailed, or dropped off at the Disability Services Office at:
Disability Services/Academic Resource Center Lower Level, Henry Buhl Library Grove City College 100 Campus Drive Grove City, PA 16127
disabilityservices@gcc.edu
Following submission of the request, as outlined above, a meeting will be held with the student and Disability Services staff to discuss the request and determine if a reasonable accommodation is necessary.
Parents and students should review this document that outlines how reasonable accommodations are determined. Parents are also encouraged to read Jane Jarrow’s Open Letter to Parents.
Appeal of Academic Accommodation Decision If the student disagrees with an academic accommodation decision made by the Director of Disability Services and an agreeable resolution cannot be found through communication between the student and the Director of Disability Services, the student can submit an appeal, in writing, within seven business days of the date of the accommodation decision. The appeal should be addressed to the Vice President of Institutional Support and Initiatives and can be e-mailed to DisabilityServices@gcc.edu or dropped off at the Academic Resource Center (lower level of the library).
