Winter Concert features orchestra, concerto/aria winners

Grove City College’s Symphonic Orchestra’s Winter Concert features the College’s best and brightest music students at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The concert features the winners of this fall’s Concerto/Aria Competition: pianist Josiah Talampas ’20, a sophomore electrical engineering major with a concentration in computer engineering from Wooster, Ohio, and vocalist Rebekah Willson ’18, a senior Music major from Beaver Falls, Pa. Talampas will play a dramatic rendition of Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 3” and Willson will sing Donizetti’s “Quel guardo il cavaliere.”

Conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, associate professor of Music and director of orchestras, the symphonic orchestra will also play selections from Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and other composers. 

Tedford will be joined by student conductors with whom he has been working one-on-one with over the last several months. Lindsey Miller ’18, a senior Music Education major from Mercer, Pa, will conduct the first movement of the Dvorak Symphony No. 9 “New World,” and Emily Nicolette-Fantin ’18, a senior Music Education major from Mars, Pa, will conduct the fourth movement. Rachel Sinclair ’18, a senior Music Education major from Mt. Union, Pa, will conduct the fourth and fifth movements of Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Suite.” 

“I am very excited to showcase the talent of our students and share the stage with these hard-working young men and women, some of whom are just starting what I anticipate being incredible careers as soloists, conductors, or teachers,” Tedford said.
