Grove City College was founded in 1876 and has a three-part mission to provide a high-quality education in a thoroughly Christian environment at an affordable cost. Grove City is a truly independent and private college, which accepts no federal funding in order to protect the integrity of its mission.

Quality education

  • Grove City offers 55 majors in the liberal arts, sciences and engineering. Grove City’s engineering programs are accredited by the American Board of Engineering and Technology.
  • Has been listed as one of the Most Competitive colleges in the nation and a Best Buy in College Education by Barron’s. Likewise, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute calls Grove City one of 50 All-American Colleges and ranked it fourth in the nation for increasing students’ knowledge of American history. Grove City College has been named by U.S. News & World Report a Best Value and one of the best colleges in America. The Young America’s Foundation calls Grove City one of the Top Ten Conservative Schools in the country. Grove City College is also one of Princeton Review’s America’s Best Value Colleges.
  • The Class of 2011, with about 650 students, is comprised of 62 valedictorians and 27 salutatorians. The average SAT score is 1269. 
  • 77 percent of faculty members have Ph.D.s or equivalent terminal degrees.
  • A three-year required humanities sequence focuses on the origin, development and implications of civilization’s seminal ideas and worldviews. The courses cover content that includes religion, philosophy, history and philosophy of science, literature, art and music.
  • The most selective Christian college in the nation.
  • 90 percent of freshmen return for their sophomore year. The national average is 76 percent.

Christian environment

  • Chapel attendance is required 16 times each semester for all students.
  • More than 20 Christian service groups exist on campus.
  • Summer international medical missions trips are taken each year.
  • More than 10 percent of the student body participates in Inner City Outreach during Easter Break.
  • College-sponsored missionaries travel the world through the Red Box mission fund.
  • No possession of alcohol or illegal drugs is permitted on campus; no co-ed dorms.

Affordable Cost

  • Tuition is about half the national average for private four-year colleges.
  • Annual tuition, room and board, as well as a HP Compaq Tablet PC and color printer, cost less than $18,550 for 2008-09.
  • Students who borrow from Grove City College’s PNC loan program are required to attend a personal debt management seminar during each year in which they initiate a loan.
  • Grove City College accepts no federal aid of any kind, including federal student grants and loans, in order to avoid federal regulation and preserve the integrity of its mission, which includes keeping operating costs low. Following the landmark 1984 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Grove City College v. T.H. Bell, Secretary of US Dept of Education, Grove City College withdrew from federal student grant programs. Grove City withdrew from federal loan student loan programs in 1996 and created its own private loan program in 1998.
