Dear Alumni of the Class of 2020, This email provides an update on the Class of 2020 Commencement ceremony currently scheduled for October 3. As many of you may know, Pennsylvania authorities have imposed a 250-person limit on outdoor “events and gatherings” and a much smaller limit on those held indoors. Higher education is exempted from these restrictions if the gathering is for educational instruction, a religious service, dining, or regularly occurs with the school’s “ordinary course of operations.” The PA Department of Education is instructing colleges and universities that commencement ceremonies are not exempt and subject to the attendance limitation. An outdoor ceremony would be restricted to 250 total participants, including graduates, families, and faculty. It is possible, though highly unlikely, that this restriction could be lifted by the beginning of October. However, planning efforts require us to work with the present limitation. Therefore, I am most sorry to announce that in compliance with the PA Department of Health order, the Class of 2020 Commencement ceremony scheduled for October 3, 2020 must be postponed again.
It has always been my deepest hope that we could celebrate together your accomplishments in and contributions to our community at Grove City College. Thus, we are committed to conducting a traditional commencement ceremony for your class, though we are obviously uncertain about when that can occur. Your input on what you prefer is essential as we consider the best options. Please complete this survey by Friday, September 4, if at all possible, to help us better understand your desire to have an in-person ceremony.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. I will be back in contact whenever we have new information. In the meantime, your continued patience is greatly appreciated. May the Lord give us all the grace needed to maintain a godly perspective in such a difficult season of our lives.
In His Peace,
Paul J. McNulty ’80 President
While our traditional in-person commencement ceremony was postponed, College President Paul J. McNulty '80 honored our 2020 graduates with a special video message on Saturday, May 16.
