What is your educational background?
- M.B.A., Geneva College
- C.P.A., licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
What specific courses or specialties do you teach?
I teach Accounting and Auditing courses at Grove City College. My professional background as a C.P.A., specializing in the audit area, allows me to bring real world accounting challenges and examples to the classroom in order to teach students how to apply class activities to real life expectations in the field of accounting
In your opinion, what is the most important piece of advice you give your students to help them succeed?
Be humble. Throughout my classes, a recurring theme is the realization that we are all fallible and will make mistakes. We have to learn to take responsibility for our mistakes and to humble ourselves by not placing the blame on others or making excuses. We also must remember to treat others as we would want to be treated. Often in the “real world”, the stresses and pressures of our jobs cause us to react to situations rather than to think about how to handle them. Using examples from my career, we talk through scenarios in order to think about how we should respond and how our responses reflect our own character.
