Exercise Science Symposium features speakers, workshops

Grove City College will hold the 11th annual Exercise Science Symposium on Saturday, March 14 on campus.

The day-long event, featuring presentations on current research, findings, and developments in the field, as well as lunch and networking opportunities, is hosted and organized by students in the Grove City College Exercise Science Club. The program presents a blend of clinical and performance focused lectures and hands-on workshops, event organizer Matthew Herrmann, a senior Exercise Science major, said.

“The symposium allows students to learn from and interact with professionals in multiple exercise science-related fields, such as strength and conditioning, physical therapy, coaching, and exercise physiology,” Herrmann said. “We feel that our speakers are genuinely interested in educating students and passionate about their professions.”

Speakers include alumnus Dr. Randall Wilber’76, senior sport physiologist at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he works closely with Team USA athletes and coaches in the areas of altitude training. Wilber will discuss “Utilization of Altitude/Hypoxic Training in the Pursuit of Olympic Medals: The Team USA Experience” at 1:10 p.m. Saturday in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Staley Hall of Arts and Letters on campus.

Also presenting at the symposium are: Sam Arnold, MS, CSCS, CSPS, CES, PES, FRCms, fitness coach and educator; Cara Colley, PT, DPT, physical therapist; Dan Glatz PT, MPT, MS, master physical therapist; and Tyler Travis, MS, CSCS, RSCC, strength and conditioning coach.
