The Institute for Faith & Freedom at Grove City College will highlight the nation’s founding at its annual conference.
“America at 250: What 1776 Was All About” will be held April 16 on campus. The conference features guest and faculty speakers and the world premiere of a student film that explores American dream today.
This is a special year for Grove City College and for America. The college, founded in 1876, is celebrating its 150th anniversary and the nation, founded a century earlier, its 250th anniversary.
America’s founding was a seminal moment in human history, a victory for faith, freedom, and humanity – for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The College’s founders and their successors have held fast to a vision of American freedom and the values that sustain it.
The Institute is dedicated to advancing the ideals and principles that made the U.S. a “shining city on a hill” through the conference, which draws hundreds annually, and its other work.
Featured speakers include:
- Dr. Matthew Spalding, Hillsdale College, on his new book “The Making of the American Mind: The Story of Declaration of Independence.”
- Grove City College President Bradley J. Lingo ’00 on “The Most American College in America.”
- Lawrence W. Reed ’75, president emeritus of the Foundation for Economic Education, on “Born of Ideas: How Principles, Faith, and Courage Forged America”
- Michael Medved on his book and film “The American Miracle: Divine Providence in the Rise of the Republic.”
Grove City College Professor Emeritus of History Dr. Gary Scott Smith ’72, IFF Executive Director and Chief Academic Fellow Dr. Paul Kengor, visiting scholars Jay Cost and Joseph Loconte, and Lenny McAllister and Megan Martin of the Commonwealth Foundation are also scheduled to speak.
The conference will conclude with the world premiere of “The Impossible Dream,” a new film by Grove City College student William Hearn, and a Q&A with the filmmaker.
The conference is open to the public, but registration is required. For details and a complete schedule, visit faithandfreedom.com.
