Congregational singing is a biblically-commanded act. In fact, we’re commanded over 400 times throughout Scripture to sing God’s praises. We read in Zephaniah 3:17 that God sings over us, his people. We’re clearly instructed in Colossians 3:16 to address one another in our singing so that “the word of Christ may dwell within us richly.” The singing portions of Grove City College’s chapel services aim to help us live this Scriptural calling as a student body. Each student has the opportunity to join in the corporate retelling and reminder of the Gospel narrative through the songs and hymns that we sing as praise to God.
The singing portion of worship is led by five separate student worship teams, comprised of students from all majors. Each spring semester, auditions are held for any student interested in helping lead worship. The worship teams lead a variety of new and old songs which aim to express the entire scope of the Christian experience, as modeled in the book of Psalms.
