Science, Writing & Reporting Concentration

The science writing and reporting concentration teaches students how to communicate scientific discoveries and technological developments to the general public in clear and comprehensible ways. Students in the science and technology fields who are interested in writing and students in the humanities interested in science and technology can hone their communication skills in this concentration.

Requirements (16-17 hours)
  • WRIT 305: Technical Communication (3 hours)
  • WRIT 315: Technical and Professional Document Design (3 hours)
  • COMM 135: Writing for the Media (3 hours) or COMM 235: Journalism (3 hours)
Electives (7-8 hours)
  • BIOL 101: General Biology I (4 hours)
  • BIOL 102: General Biology II (4 hours)
  • CHEM 101: General Chemistry I (4 hours)
  • CHEM 102: General Chemistry II (4 hours)
  • CHEM 105: Chemistry for Engineers (4 hours)
  • PHYS 101: General Physics I—Engineering (4 hours)
  • PHYS 102: General Physics II—Engineering (4 hours)
  • PHYS 121: College Physics I (4 hours)
  • PHYS 122: College Physics II (4 hours)
  • COMP 155: Introduction to Computer Science (3 hours)

Note: Electives do not need to be taken in sequence. For example, a student can take BIOL 101 and COMP 155 or CHEM 101 and PHYS 101.
