Creative Writing Minor or Concentration

Creative Writing Minor

The creative writing minor is available to all students, regardless of major, who are interested in developing their skills in writing poetry, fiction, drama, television or film scripts, or creative non-fiction. The minor provides a more in-depth exploration of creative writing than does the creative writing concentration. The minor also prepares students for MFA study in creative writing.

Requirements (21 hours)
  • WRIT 315: Document Design or approved WRIT 390 course (3 hours)
  • WRIT 305: Technical Communication or WRIT 310: Business Communication (3 hours)
Electives (15 hours)

Choose four from the following :

  • WRIT/COMM 359: Screenwriting
  • WRIT/ENGL 271: Creative Writing
  • WRIT/ENGL 281: Creative Non-Fiction
  • WRIT/ENGL 382: Poetry Writing
  • WRIT/ENGL 383: Story Writing
  • WRIT/THEA 384: Playwriting

Choose one from the following:

  • ENGL 230: Short Story
  • ENGL 242: 19th Century English Novel
  • ENGL 243: 20th Century English Novel
  • ENGL 245: 19th Century American Novel
  • ENGL 246: 20th Century American Novel
  • ENGL 250: World Drama
  • ENGL 252: Modern Drama
  • ENGL 261: Poetry
  • ENGL 262: Modern Poetry
