Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra plays Showcase Series at GCC

Grove City College presents an evening of great music with the world-renowned Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 in Ketler Auditorium in Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The one-night-only “An American Thanksgiving” concert is part of the College’s Showcase Series, which presents shows on- and off-campus for the College community. The orchestra, under the direction of Andres Franco, will perform works by great American composers such as Copeland, Bernstein and Barber, along with a rich sampling of Dvorak’s “New World.” These are some of the composers’ most beautiful and signature pieces, which capture both the spirit of America and the Thanksgiving season.

Sixteen Grove City College music students will playing with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on two pieces in a side-by-side setting. All of the students are current member of the Grove City College Orchestra program and will be traveling to Heinz Hall in November to rehearse with the orchestra.

“I am thrilled that we are able to offer this opportunity for these students to play with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and also the community to have this world-class orchestra perform on campus,” Dr. Jeffrey M. Tedford, director of Orchestras for Grove City College, said.

The Orchestra will be in its full complement, so don't miss an evening of music that will be the perfect precursor to every family's Thanksgiving holiday.
