What specific courses or specialties do you teach?

• ENGR 216 Intro to Electrical Engineering – required course for all mechanical engineers. Most of my engineering career was working with mechanical engineers. I enjoy the challenge to showing them the similarities between electrical and mechanical engineering
• ELEE 310 – Intro to Microcontrollers – over 40 years of experience in industrial and medical applications. Valuable skill for all EE students to learn and I focus on-  the practical applications and fundamental concepts they’ll need for their careers
• ENGR 414 – Medical Device Product Development – 25 years in the medical device business. Roles included clinical studies, market research, innovation, algorithm and electronic design and manufacturing. Most of the course is applicable to an engineering conducted in an industrial setting. 
• ENGR 301 – Engineering Ethics – Fundamental basics of ethics with practical – some of my own – ethical dilemmas. My passion is to equip them to work in corporate environment that will likely not share their Christian values.

In your opinion, what is the most important piece of advice you give your students to help them succeed?
Your resume gets you hired, your behavior will get you fired. It’s been my experience that a competent engineer can learn anything to do the job at hand. What management will noy tolerate are behavior issues – and they don’t. A student that is earnestly trying gets my full attention and support. The same is true for a student whose attitude or work ethic needs my “special” attention.

My freshman year was a struggle but ended well. Lean on your friends and the support services that are available and willing to help you. The struggle makes you stronger, wiser and more resilient.
