Modern Language students present at CAWL conference

Four Grove City College modern language majors recently presented their senior research projects at the Christian Association of World Languages (CAWL) Conference at Houghton (N.Y.) College from April 15-16.

Paul Sundman ’17, of East Hartford, Pa., earned an Honorable Mention in the Emerging Scholars category for his work on “Le Grand Dérangement: The Acadians’ Struggle, Reception and Identity during their Exile in the 1700s.” Awards in the category usually go to graduate students.

The other students and their presentations were:

     • Bethany Easom ’18, of Gibsonia, Pa. – “Crossing the Border: Mexican Immigration”
     • Lizi King ’18, of York, Pa. – “Gestures, Expressions and Etiquette: How to Acculturate in Spain”
     • Angela Rajm ’17, of Coraopolis, Pa.  – “The Gitano: A Misunderstood and Marginalized Roma People”

The students conducted their research as part of the coursework for Methods of Teaching Modern Language, taught by Dr. Patricia A. Tinkey, professor of Spanish at Grove City College.
