Nick Hildebrand / Friday, April 20, 2018 / Categories: All News, Academics, STEM, Mechanical Engineering Mechanical engineering undergrads earn awards Grove City College Mechanical Engineering students recently received scholarship awards from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASRHAE). Hope Fiely, a freshman from Meadville, Pa., received the $5000 Frank M. Coda ASRHAE scholarship. The award is for undergraduates enrolled in an accredited engineering program who are in the top 30 percent of their class. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application. Other Grove City College students who were awarded ASRHAE scholarships were: Cullen Lloyd, a sophomore from Howell, N.J. – $1000 from Local Pittsburgh chapter of ASRHAE for GCC specific scholarship Sarah Trinkle, a senior from Flourtown, Pa. – $500 from Local Pittsburgh chapter of ASRHAE for GCC specific scholarship Josiah Martin, a junior from Baldwinsville, N.Y. – $500 from Local Pittsburgh chapter of ASRHAE for GCC specific scholarship The scholarships were awarded during the 13th annual Sheet Metal Industry Night event in Pittsburgh, which was co-sponsored by ASHRAE. Through its scholarships, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC&R field, part of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industry. The Society’s Scholarship Program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in HVAC&R. Over the course of 29 years ASHRAE has awarded nearly $2 million to nearly 400 deserving students. In other recent Mechanical Engineering news, Ryan Zellers, a senior from Lebanon, Pa., won third place at the 2018 American Society for Engineering Education North Central Regional Conference for his poster “High Performance Liquid Cooled 2-stroke Cylinder Head Design,” which detailed research undertaken with Dr. John Dixon ’05, assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering.
