Join the Wolverine Marching Band for game day

​High school juniors or seniors who want to get a taste of what being a member of a top-flight college marching band is like will have a chance with Grove City College’s Wolverine Marching Band Preview Day 2015. 

The Wolverine Marching Band invites high school marching band members – instrumentalists, color guard, dance line, flags or twirlers – to experience a game day performance on Saturday, Oct. 24, when the Wolverine football team faces off against Thomas More College on Thorn Field at Grove City College.

Participating students will find out what a college marching band is all about as they meet members of the band and band directors, rehearse with the group, have lunch with the officers and become guest members of the Wolverine Marching Band during pre-show, pre-game and half-time performances. 

“Grove City’s marching band is one of the largest and best in its class,” Dr. Joseph Pisano, director of bands and professor of Music, said. “Think: ‘Division I band’ even though we are a Division III college.”

The day begins with registration at 9:30 a.m. at Pew Fine Arts Center on the campus of Grove City College, followed by rehearsal at 10 a.m., lunch and a noon warm-up with the Marching Wolverines. At 12:40 p.m. the band and its guest members will line up and march to Thorn Field for pre-show and pre-game performances – including trumpet fanfare, tubas on Rainbow Bridge and an arc performance at the Gazebo on lower campus – before the big half-time show.

All registered students will receive a Wolverine Marching Band polo shirt and baseball cap and their family members will be able to attend the game as guests of Grove City College. Music will be provided to students beforehand. The deadline for registration is Oct. 1.
