Professional Experience 
When my children were young, I was a tenured faculty member in computer science at a mid-sized private university, but most of my professional life was spent in corporate America at very large companies. I began my career as a programmer in assembly on DOS mainframes! Eventually, I became a Chief Information Officer leading very large global teams.  

Research 
I started my research in web-based teaching back when commercial internet was new. Now my research efforts are focused on data analytics topics of interest to my students such as stochastic analysis of professional sport team statistics, minimizing government expenditures through data analysis, and developing effective exit algorithms for commercial buildings.

Currently, I am developing master-level programs to help mid-career professionals move into positions of leadership. My goal is to develop infrastructure that allows Grove City College to grow leaders of character through Christ-centered leadership programs. In a somewhat related effort, dual-enrollment courses are being developed so that advanced high school students can benefit from the rigor of Grove City College courses. Thus, Grove City College can teach Christ-centered leaders across the entire spectrum of leadership growth.

What is the most important piece of advice you give students to help them succeed?
Realize that God has a plan for your life. With that in mind, determine the path you believe you are to travel. Once you determine a direction, stay focused. Don’t let small distractions or failures take you off your path. Failures strengthen you, increase your focus, and force you to continually reassess your ability to achieve. Don’t be defeated by failures; use them. And when students ask me how you know what God wants you to do, I tell them that God is really, really big. He will let you know; just stay open to Him and keep diligently preparing yourself. 

Is there any personal experience you would like to share?
I started my life on a farm in the foothills of the Appalachia Mountains. I was the first person in my family to go to college. In so many ways, I am the American dream. From very humble beginnings, I achieved some pretty lofty stations in my career.  After God, I credit amazing mentors who helped me advance in my career and reach the highest levels in my profession. My mentors weren’t always kind in the classic sense of the word, but they were always direct and honest in their feedback.  

Also, I have two dogs (Ben and Jaq) that enjoy being out on the farm with me.
