Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs B.A. Grove City College Areas of Expertise I have been a member of the faculty at Grove City College since 1991 and have had the joy and privilege of working with many great students over the years – it’s what keeps me coming back excited for the new academic year fall after fall! My primary areas of expertise are international trade policy and corporate social responsibility. Needless to say, both are very hot topics these days. They keep me fully engaged and provide lots of opportunities to add to the classroom experience! I am passionate about all things international, and I have travelled to almost 50 countries, with Russia, China, southern Africa, the UK, and France being my most frequent destinations. I spent a sabbatical semester teaching at two universities in Russia and have taken groups of Grove City College students on two-week adventures to a number of countries over the years. My Russian is pretty good, and I am still working on my German and French, while more recently Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese have joined my language studies. I also serve as the International Safety and Security Advisor for the Office of Global Programs. In that capacity I work with students on safety and security issues as they look forward to serving in international missions or studying abroad. To be successful in life you must 1) love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and 2) have a relentless focus to achieve your passion. Is there any additional personal experience you would like to share? I am a passionate soccer (“world” football!) fan and follow especially the English and German leagues. My three brothers and I played team soccer from the time we were five years old through our college years and so it is the Markley family sport! Closer to home, I’m an avid gardener and each summer welcome many visitors to my flowers.
