Department of Music presents 'Orchestral Dances'

The Grove City Department of Music presents “Orchestral Dances,” a performance by the College Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 in Ketler Auditorium in the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The concert will feature works associated with dance, including Beethoven’s “Prometheus Overture,” Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances” and Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2.” In addition, the Chamber Orchestra will perform several waltzes from Brahm’s “Liebeslieder Waltzer,” as well as “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert is free and open to the public.

Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, director of Orchestras, will conduct the concert. Tedford has been the Director of Orchestras since 2011 and also teaches several music classes at the College. He received his undergraduate in music education from Grove City College with a dual emphasis in voice and violin, his master’s in conducting from Carnegie Mellon University and his doctorate in music education from Shenandoah University.

This is the first of four concerts presented by the College and Chamber Orchestras this year. Additional concerts include the annual Christmas Concert and two concerts in the spring.
