Christian Writers Conference features poet-priest Guite

The Grove City College Department of English is holding a Christian Writers Conference April 6 to April 8 featuring English poet-priest Malcom Guite, who will present several lectures on campus and perform songs and poetry at a local coffee house.

Guite, an Anglican priest, poet, singer-songwriter and academic, serves as a bye-fellow and chaplain of Girton College, a constituent of the University of Cambridge, England. As a “poet-priest,” he focuses his research and writing on the interplay of theology and the arts, specifically theology and literature. Guite’s special interests of study are the works of C. S. Lewis and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. He is the author of  six books, including two collections of his own poetry, “The Singing Bowl” and “Sounding the Seasons,” as well as two anthologies of poems, “Waiting on the Word; a poem a day for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany” and “The Word in the Wilderness; a poem a day for Lent, Holy week and Easter.” Guite is also a member of the rock band Mystery Train.

On Wednesday, April 6, Guite will discuss “Mariner: A Voyage of Samuel Taylor Coleridge,” at 4 p.m. in the Great Room of Breen Student Union.

On Thursday, April 7, he will speak on “Faith, Hope and Poetry” during the 9:30 a.m. chapel service at Harbison Chapel. At 7 p.m. he will present a keynote lecture “Imagination Bodies Forth: Incarnation and the Christian Writer,” in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters.
