Academics, affordability, outcomes earn GCC ‘Best Value’ nod

Grove City College’s place on The Princeton Review’s annual listing of The Best Value Colleges puts it in the top 8% of American higher education institutions based on a combination of academic excellence, affordability, and strong career prospects for students.

The Best Value Colleges list highlights a “truly a select group” of colleges and universities that deliver on those exceptional distinctions, Editor-in-Chief of The Princeton Review Rob Franek said. The list was released this week by the national education services company.

“This recognition is a big validation of our mission,” Grove City College President Paul McNulty ’80. “Our historic commitment to academic excellence and affordability – matched by our Christian character – results in a great return on investment for our students and graduates, not just in their paychecks, but more importantly in the quality of their lives.”

"We commend – and recommend – each of the 209 schools that made our Best Value Colleges list for 2023,” Franek said. “They comprise only about 8% of the nation’s 2,637 four-year undergraduate degree-granting institutions.”

The Princeton Review analyzed more than 40 data points from institutional and student surveys taken over the last year, including graduation rates, academic quality, costs, financial aid, student debt loads, along with PayScale salary reports to make its Best Value selections. “Students who attend these schools don't have to mortgage their futures to pay for their degrees – and we believe they will graduate with great career prospects,” The Princeton Review’s editors concluded.

Schools on the list represent those with the highest return on investment (ROI) rankings. Grove City College’s ROI rating is 88/99.

Grove City College offers students an excellent academic experience, with a 13:1 student-faculty ratio, a far-above-the-average four-year graduation rate of 80%, and accomplished, interesting, and accessible professors, according to The Princeton Review.

The College’s low tuition – just over $20,000 a year– is about half the cost of comparable private colleges and universities and more than 60% of students receive some form of institutional financial aid.

Grove City College graduates see a 20-year return on investment of $476,000; an average early career salary of $59,800; and average midcareer earnings of $116,000, according to PayScale.
