U.S. Sen. Rand Paul to speak at Commencement

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, will deliver the commencement address at Grove City College’s 146th Commencement exercises on May 9.

Now in his third term in the Senate, Paul has established a national reputation as a thoughtful advocate for constitutional government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty – principles that align with the College’s longstanding commitment to faith and freedom.

“Senator Paul is an especially fitting choice for our commencement this year,” Bradley J.  Lingo ’00, president of Grove City College, said. “As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Grove City College and as our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its independence, his career in public service reflects a serious commitment to the constitutional ideals and civic responsibilities that have shaped both our institution and our country.”

In the Senate, Paul has focused on limiting government overreach, strengthening accountability, and restoring constitutional checks and balances. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Known for his attention to fiscal stewardship, Paul has a long record of opposing wasteful spending and has returned $8.3 million from his Senate office budget to the U.S. Treasury.

Paul has also contributed to public discourse through his writing on American government, economics, and public policy. He is the son of Ron Paul, a longtime congressman and prominent voice in constitutional conservatism.

Before entering public office, Paul practiced medicine as an ophthalmologist after earning his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic to provide eye care to underserved patients and has performed numerous pro bono surgeries in Kentucky and abroad. A devout Christian, Paul remains active in his local church.

Grove City College’s Commencement exercises will recognize the achievements of the Class of 2026 and mark a historic moment in the life of the College during its sesquicentennial year.
