Grove City College’s Pew Fine Art Center Gallery is featuring the artwork of local students with special needs in the Very Special Arts exhibit, which runs Thursday, March 14 to Saturday, March 23.
Very Special Arts showcases the creativity of K-12 students from 27 school districts in Mercer, Butler, and Lawrence counties and is sponsored by Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, Grove City.
An artists’ reception will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23 in the gallery for students, families, friends, educators, and the public. Pieces on display include painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber, and ceramics. All work is juried with awards in three categories: Juror’s Choice, Honorable Mention, and Group Projects. Student artists will be able to see their work on display in the gallery and receive T-shirts and other gifts. The event is free.
“The paintings, sculptures, and other art that the students create is colorful, beautiful, inventive, and appealing. It deserves to be shown and seen in a gallery setting,” said Hilary Walczak ’09, director of College Archives and Galleries. “Grove City College is honored to present this incredible and inspirational art show with the Intermediate Unit.”
Very Special Arts is an international program founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith as an affiliate of the educational programs of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The program is designed to give special needs children and adults the opportunity to develop and display their creative abilities.
The Pew Fine Arts Center Gallery is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
