Jonathan Newman

Dr. Jonathan Newman has been the Henry Hazlitt Research Fellow at the Mises Institute since June 2023. From 2017-2023, he was an Assistant and Associate Professor of Economics and Finance at Bryan College. He holds a M.S. and Ph.D. in economics from Auburn University during which he served as a research fellow at the Mises Institute. He was the recipient of the 2021 Gary G. Schlarbaum Award to a Promising Young Scholar for Excellence in Research and Teaching. 

Dr. Newman has published articles in the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics and Libertarian Papers. He was awarded the Lawrence W. Fertig Prize in Austrian Economics in 2025. He has contributed book chapters to volumes including Reflections on Human Action: 75 Years Later, Mises, Rothbard, and Beyond: An Advanced Handbook on Austrian Economics, The Legacy of Robert Higgs, A Modern Guide to Austrian Economics, The Economic Theory of Costs: Foundations and New Directions

Dr Newman has contributed the Introduction to the online edition of F.W. Taussig’s book, Wages and Capital. In addition, he has edited two books, Mises University Reader and Anti-MMT. His research focuses on Austrian economics, inflation and business cycles, and the history of economic thought. He has taught a wide range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. He is the author of three children’s books: The Broken Window, Ludwig the Builder, and The Magic Coin. His commentary appears regularly in the Mises Wire and Power & Market.
