Greg Bandy will join the faculty of Grove City College’s Department of Communication and Visual Arts in the fall.
“I'm honored to join the faculty at Grove College. I value the school's well-known reputation for academic excellence, spiritual integrity, top tier students and fiscal responsibility," Bandy said.
Bandy comes to Grove City College from Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky., where he served as an assistant professor of communications, teaching courses in journalism, mass media, marketing and production.
His work there also focused on documentary production, special events and technology. The documentaries Bandy directed and produced included “C. S. Lewis: Why He Matters Today,” “Amazing Grace: The Story Behind the Song” and “The Hound of Heaven: The Francis Thompson Story.” He also co-founded the university’s highly-successful Highbridge Film Festival and served as adviser for student publications.
“My approach to educating students in media communication leans into unique experiential education opportunities. I like working side-by-side with eager students in real projects and have been blessed to do so throughout most of my educational career. C. S. Lewis was once quoted as saying, 'No one can teach riding so well as a horse.' I think that concept holds particularly true in this field," Bandy said.
Bandy’s experience outside of the classroom includes years in the private sector, including working as a special projects manager, writer-producer and production coordinator for several media companies and large non-profits. He began his broad communications career as a newspaper reporter in Toccoa, Ga.
His areas of expertise include filmmaking, project/event management, screenwriting, photojournalism, multimedia production and journalism. Bandy will be teaching primarily in the areas of production, filmmaking and journalism.
“I'm excited about the direction the Communication Department is moving. While the playing field of communications is being leveled and redefined by 21st century technology, the importance of a commitment to truth and our worldview values remains steadfast. There’s just so much potential on the horizon for the program and the students,” Bandy said.
Bandy holds a M.F.A. in Narrative Media Writing and a M.A. in Journalism with an emphasis in magazine writing from University of Georgia, Athens, Ga., and earned his B.A. in Secondary Education/Speech from Asbury College.
