The Grove City College Department of Music presents the Band and Orchestra programs’ annual Fall Concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on Campus.
The concert featuring the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and the Wind Ensemble is free and open to the public and will be livestreamed at www.gcc.edu/livemusic.
The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Department Chair Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, will perform Copland’s Outdoor Overture followed by Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1. Both works will feature several student soloists as part of the ensemble. The Chamber Orchestra will perform Shostakovich’s Sinfonia for Strings based on String Quartet No. 8, Op. 110, featuring the string orchestra through this five-movement work.
The Wind Ensemble, directed by Professor of Music and Director of Bands Dr. Andrew Erb, will perform four works including Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Ticheli’s An American Elegy, Leemans’ March of the Belgian Paratroopers, and Galante’s Cathedral Mountain.
“The wind ensemble and both orchestras have worked very hard in a short period of time to produce this concert. The skills of this year’s musicians are evidenced by their musical expression and technical ability. I’m looking forward to sharing this music with our community,” said Tedford.
