Admissions staff hits the road to spread the word about GCC

Grove City College admissions counselors and alumni ambassadors will fan out across the country this spring to meet prospective students where they are and explain how the College can help them get to where they want to be.

A grueling travel schedule is nothing new to the College’s admissions team, but this spring’s activity marks a stepped up presence at college and career fairs. The “Meet Us on the Road” initiative includes more than 40 college and career fairs in 13 states over the next few months.

The effort is intended to take the Grove City College message to students at public and private schools and fairs and expos sponsored by both the National Association for College Admission Counseling and North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals.

“We’ve routinely been on the road, but we are increasing our travel this year and letting the world know in advance where and when we’ll be around the country,” said Lee Wishing ’83, vice president for Student Recruitment. In addition to regional fairs in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York, the effort includes events in Texas, Chicago, the upper Midwest, deep South, and the mountain West.

“We will reach out to prospective students and friends in those areas in advance of the events to encourage them to ‘meet us on the road,’” Wishing said. The full “Meet Us on the Road” schedule is online at gcc.edu/Info/Visit/Meet-us-on-the-road.

The reinvigorated outreach involves the entire team of admission counselors, along with other staffers and some of Grove City College’s best ambassadors – alumni. Dena (Lauch ’92) Solman is both. The proud alumna – and mom of two Grovers – serves as Admissions Network Development Coordinator and will be part of the team reaching out to students and recruiting alumni volunteers in the area of visits.

“Our goal for being ‘on the road’ is to introduce the awesomeness of Grove City College to students and to prayerfully recruit students to attend,” she said. “Personal experience is an alum’s biggest asset working with prospective students. Their personal academic, spiritual, and social experiences at GCC make them natural and powerful advocates for the College.”

Grove City College offers students an academically excellent, Christ-centered, and affordable living and learning experience where they can pursue truth freely; develop skills, knowledge, and wisdom that will serve them for a lifetime; and grow in their faith and convictions. Under the guidance of a faculty of accomplished Christian scholars in a vibrant community, students learn to think well, holistically, and deeply so they are equipped to lead and serve wherever they are called.

With over 60 accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts, sciences, business, and health, Grove City College prepares students to succeed and thrive in any field. The College is highly ranked by U.S. News and World Report, The Princeton Review, Forbes, and others for academic quality and overall value.
