Grove City College will welcome more than 500 new students to campus this week, drawn by the College’s strong academic programs and institutional values.
Freshmen and transfer students began moving to campus on Wednesday, August 20 to prepare for the start of classes on August 25.
On Move-in Day, new Grovers were greeted at their residence halls by members of Orientation Board, a student organization dedicated to acclimating new students to Grove City College’s distinctive campus culture, who made quick work of unloading hundreds of SUVs, pickups, and other vehicles and getting students settled into their residence halls.
Over the next few days, the new students will be issued laptop computers, which the College has provided to students since the 1990s, attend meetings with their academic advisers, residence life staff, and connection groups, and get to know their peers and have some fun at events like the Graffiti Dance.
The incoming Class of 2029 includes 562 students, who will be joined by 43 transfer students to bring the College’s total enrollment to 2,244, including upperclassmen and graduate students, according to preliminary data from the registrar’s office.
Half of the freshmen class hails from Pennsylvania, with the rest coming from more than 40 other states and countries. They come from a variety of school backgrounds. Fifty-four percent attended public schools, 25% came from Christian school settings, 16% were homeschooled, and the rest attended classical, private, online, and charter schools. The freshman class is 51% male.
A survey of freshmen indicated that 97% chose to attend Grove City College because of its academic programs, which include more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Forty percent of the class is majoring in STEM disciplines, 37% in liberal arts, 20 percent in business, and 3% in nursing.
The College’s Christian character influenced 95% of freshmen in their decision-making process. Faith and learning are the foundation of Grove City College’s classically rooted curriculum, which empowers students to pursue truth freely.
Career outcomes, a strong campus community, and conservative values rounded out the top five reasons students chose Grove City College, according to the survey conducted by the Admissions Office.
