UK journalist to discuss how ‘The Troubles’ ended

Grove City College will host journalist David Blevins for a lecture at noon on Oct. 1 in Sticht Lecture Hall in the Hall of Arts and Letters on campus.

Blevins is senior Ireland correspondent for Sky News, a UK-based world news outlet, who left the profession to attend seminary before being called back to journalism. He’ll discuss “How Christians Stopped Killing Each Other in Northern Ireland,” offering his take on reporting on peace and conflict, how it relates to all religions and why professionals of religious conviction belong in newsrooms globally.

During his long career he covered the brokering of The Good Friday or Belfast Agreement in 1998 that secured the governance of Northern Ireland, decommissioning of IRA weapons, the Queen's historic visit to Ireland in 2011 and, more recently, on how Brexit is impacting the Irish border.

“It’s always good to remind ourselves that our world is a global community and our faith is an international family. Blevins’ visit helps us remember these things about ourselves,” Dr. Daniel Brown, professor of Communication Studies, said.

The lecture is co-sponsored by The Stan and Karen Johnson Office of International Education and the Department of Communication and Visual Arts. It is free and open to the public.
