College names new VP for Athletics, Global Programs director

Grove City College has named longtime athletic director Todd Gibson ’02 to the new position of vice president for Athletics and hired alumnus Derek Bradley ’03 as director of the Stan & Karen Johnson Office of Global Programs.

The administrative appointments address key areas of College growth and service to the student body.

In his new role, Gibson will oversee 24 varsity teams involving more than 600 athletes and dozens of coaches and staff. He is also responsible for physical education course offerings and teaches a popular course on sports management.

“Todd is one of the College's most significant leaders,” President Paul J. McNulty ’80 said. “He manages an athletics program that impacts hundreds of our students and benefits the entire GCC community. He plays a critical role in building and strengthening the faith-first cultures of our varsity teams. Under his leadership, GCC is achieving our goal of becoming one of the best Christian college athletics programs in the country.”

As athletic director over the last decade, Gibson has led a renaissance in collegiate athletics that includes the introduction of four new varsity sports, record numbers of student-athletes enrolled, rising success in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and NCAA post-season competition, and an increased national profile for Wolverine athletics.

Bradley comes to Grove City from the University of North Carolina Greensboro where he served as director of its Study Abroad programs. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the College and a master’s degree in Intercultural Studies from Wheaton College.

“Derek brings extensive experience in global education to Grove City, and I’m grateful for his knowledge and enthusiasm in leading students to study abroad. Study abroad opportunities are an important part of helping students experience unfamiliar places and cultures and often lead to a transformational understanding of God’s diverse world,” Dr. Peter Frank ’95, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, said.

“The Global Programs office lost a beloved director last fall with the sudden passing of Jennifer Gilliland, and I believe Derek is perfectly suited to build upon the excellent work that Jennifer advanced for our students,” Frank added.
