Nick Hildebrand / Friday, April 14, 2023 / Categories: All News, Academics, STEM, Exercise Science, Athletics College hosting NSCA strength and conditioning clinic The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) will hold its Pennsylvania State Clinic at Grove City College on Saturday, April 15, bringing sports science professionals to campus for a daylong educational summit. Participants will learn about innovative research and how to apply it to their work during the clinic, which features a number of guest speakers covering different areas of focus for educators, trainers, and others. “This event being at Grove City College provides a unique opportunity for interested students – not just at GCC – to attend a high-quality professional conference in their ‘backyard,’” Dr. Hayden D. Gerhart, associate professor of Exercise Science, said. “Strength and conditioning and sports science professionals from the tri-state area and beyond will make their way to campus and experience the college’s amazing facilities, which will be used throughout the event.” Gerhart serves as state director of NSCA, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the field of strength and conditioning and related sports science professions. Dr. Philip Prins, chair and professor of Exercise Science at Grove City College, will present his research on the impact of low and high carbohydrate diets on performance, metabolism, and cardiometabolic health in athletes. NSCA offers several accredited certifications such as the highly recognized Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification as well as several print and online journals that publish current research, case studies, and continuing education content, Gerhart said. Additionally, the NSCA holds many state and national level continuing education conferences each year, bringing together high caliber professionals willing to share their knowledge and best practices with other professionals in the field of sports science.
