‘Brigadoon’ brings Scottish charm to College stage

Grove City College’s Theatre Program presents “Brigadoon” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 to 10 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The hit Broadway musical “Brigadoon” tells the story of two New Yorkers who find love and adventure in a mysterious town hidden in the highlands of Scotland. The show – with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe – features numbers such as “Almost Like Being in Love” and “The Heather on the Hill.”

“I think what makes ‘Brigadoon’ so special is its ability to transport the audience to this mystical town in the Highlands of Scotland,” lead actor Brian Ferris ’19 of Chardon, Ohio, said. “The music in the show is simply beautiful. There are elements of the music that are familiar to classic musicals, but ‘Brigadoon’ also has its own Scottish flair that is engaging and unique. When I’m singing these songs, it is hard not to feel my emotions stirring.”

The show is directed by Betsy Craig ’77, professor of English and Theatre at the College. The student cast includes principal actors Ferris, Benjamin Eicher ’19, Zack Kenyon ’19, Katarina Meikrantz ’21, Callie Roberts ’19, Spencer Simpson ’21 and Jared Stonefield ’21.

The production’s stage crew includes: Emmy Larison ’20, stage manager; Delaney Martin ’20, dance captain; Cole Ile ’22, props master; Megan Snitchler ’19, house manager; Kevin Garvey, choreographer; David Barron, music director; Julia Barnes ’20 and Micah Mooney ’20, co-student music directors; and Dan Wolfe, technical director. Costumes for the show were designed by Kristin Barbour, assistant professor of Theatre at the College.
