I enjoy conducting and performing in bands, and I am particularly intrigued with the sociological aspects of ensembles. I have also felt called for years to work with pre-service music teachers. I wholeheartedly believe that music teachers are an essential component to school students’ education and that music is and should be an essential part of people’s lives. We have the power to affect those lives by producing high quality musicians and music teachers at Grove City College. What is the most important piece of advice you give students to help them succeed? Be humble, be attentive to the needs of others, and study, practice, perform, and live with passion. Weaving this advice into ensemble playing is essential. Students who do not play with passion are missing out on the essence of music. I cannot expect my students to be passionate about performing music that I am clearly not passionate about conducting. I try and show my passion for what I do through my rehearsals, conducting, and expectation, and my students generally follow suit. Selected Publications I have several recordings available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other music distribution sites. Most recently I recorded on a jazz album and on a Christmas album with a band called “Sound of Fusion.” Those albums are called “At Dusk” and “Have Yourself a Jazzy Little Christmas.” I also perform and record with the Northwest Passage Trumpet Trio, and we will be releasing a new album titled “Excursions” soon. A little bit about me… In my free time I enjoy being outside—hunting, fishing, camping, and home improvement projects are among my favorite activities. I also spend a lot of time watching my three children play soccer, cheer, and play basketball for their school.
