Education

  • B.S., Grove City College
  • M.S., Penn State University
  • Ph.D., Penn State University

Related Research
Pedagogical research relating to growth-focused assessment, tools to encourage and assist learning. Strength limits of clevis and lug bolted joints. Application of computational methods to compare experimental and theoretical carbon fiber composite conductivity models.

Courses Taught
Thermal fluids courses and courses with a strong application of mathematics and physics principles to the understanding and analysis of engineering problems.

What is the most important piece of advice you give your students to help them succeed?
A good engineer understands the systems that they design, they don’t just apply formulas that they don’t understand, because this often leads to using the formulas incorrectly. As such, I rarely just give out equations. I always explain the underlying concepts in play, the math and physics, and any assumptions that are made to simplify the analysis.
