Campus conference examines ‘Faith through Story and Song’

Grove City College’s 17th annual Christian Writers Conference examines “The Art of Community: Faith through Story and Song.”

The conference, which runs March 22 and 23, 2018, will focus on the ways in which creativity, specifically literature and music, help to draw communities closer to one another and to the Lord.
Sponsored by the Department of English, the Christian Writers Conference brings together writers, scholars and students to explore and discuss the nature of writing and the role that faith plays in it. Organizers of the conference are hopeful that it will be a rich time of scholarship and growth.

Brothers Andrew and Pete Peterson are special guests for this year’s conference. The Nashville-based siblings are writers and the creators and curators of The Rabbit Room, a Christ-centered online community dedicated to spiritual formation through music, story and art. The Rabbit Room encompasses podcasts, a thriving music and book store, Rabbit Room Press, the yearly Hutchmoot conference, a concert series and more.

Andrew Peterson is a singer-songwriter who has released ten records over the past 15 years. His music has earned him a reputation for writing songs that connect with his listeners in ways equally powerful, poetic, and intimate. A natural-born storyteller, he also followed his gifts into the realm of publishing. His books include “The Wingfeather Saga,” a four-book fantasy adventure series for young people, described as “The Princess Bride” meets “The Lord of the Rings.” The books are currently being produced as an animated film.

A.S. “Pete” Peterson is the author of the Revolutionary War adventure “The Fiddler’s Gun” and its sequel “Fiddler’s Green.” He serves as the executive director of the Rabbit Room and managing editor of Rabbit Room Press.

The brothers Peterson will deliver a joint keynote address at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in Crawford Hall Auditorium on campus. Their talk, entitled “Adorning the Dark: Community, Calling and the Mystery of Making,” will explore the redemptive power of being a member of a creative community. It is free and open to the public.

At 9 p.m. Friday, March 23, Andrew Peterson will perform a concert in Crawford Auditorium. The show will feature Nashville artist Cody Fry as well. Click here for tickets.
